Based in Bangladesh Bank Order, 1972, the Government of Bangladesh reorganized the Dhaka division of State Bank of Pakistan, while the central bank, and called the Bangladesh Bank retroactively from December 16, 1971.

Bangladesh Bank is the Central bank of Bangladesh and is a member of the Asian Clearing Union.

Function:

Bank performs all the functions that a central bank of a country is expected to perform, and these functions include the maintenance of price stability through measures of economic and monetary policy, management of foreign exchange and gold reserves and regulation of the banking sector. Like all other central banks in the world, the Bangladesh Bank is both the government's banker and the banker's bank, a "lender of last resort". Bangladesh Bank, like most central banks in different countries, exercises monopoly on issuing currency and currency.
